Our Family's Summer Adventure with a New Pizza Oven
Our Family's Summer Adventure with a New Pizza Oven
Our family has had a lot of fun this summer! We have enjoyed delicious donuts for National Donut Day and recently visited Blackridge Reservoir. This time, we decided to stay at home and do something fun.
We received $400 from our Costco membership and decided to use some of those funds to buy a pizza oven. It truly felt like the Bluey episode when they go to Hammer Barn to buy a pizza oven.
The oven was on sale for $149. This particular oven did not come with a pizza paddle, so we bought a large spatula to get started. The pizza oven is by Nexgrill, and we really like it! The 360-degree spinning feature is awesome.
What We Learned
- Don’t overdo it on the toppings and sauce! Trey wanted so many toppings that it became quite the monster pizza!
- Use more flour on the dough so it slides in easier.
- Don’t be cheap and buy the pizza paddle! It’s definitely worth it.
This was a fun family memory, and we love being able to make our own pizzas. More importantly, we cherish the family time together.
This oven was an investment, but we figured after 3-4 times of eating out at a create-your-own pizza place, like MOD Pizza in Saratoga Springs, Utah, we could save money and get exactly what we wanted! Plus, it fits in my macros, which is a huge bonus while trying to take care of my body and goals.
Additional Considerations
- Preheat the Oven Properly: Make sure to preheat the oven for at least 15-20 minutes to ensure it reaches the optimal temperature for cooking pizza.
- Experiment with Different Dough Recipes: Try using different types of dough, such as whole wheat or gluten-free, to cater to various dietary needs.
- Use a Pizza Stone: If your oven didn’t come with one, consider buying a pizza stone to help distribute heat evenly and create a crispy crust.
- Keep a Pizza Peel Handy: A pizza peel makes it much easier to transfer pizzas in and out of the oven.
- Monitor the Cooking Time: Pizzas cook quickly in a high-heat pizza oven, so keep a close eye on them to avoid burning.
Fun Facts and Ideas
- Make Calzones: Use your pizza oven to bake delicious calzones filled with your favorite ingredients.
- Bake Bread: Your pizza oven can double as a bread oven. Try baking artisan bread or rolls for a fresh and tasty treat.
- Grill Vegetables: Use the high heat to quickly grill vegetables for a delicious and healthy side dish.
- Roast Meat: The pizza oven is perfect for roasting meats like chicken or pork for a juicy and flavorful main course.
- Dessert Pizzas: Get creative with dessert pizzas using toppings like Nutella, fresh fruit, and marshmallows.
Conclusion
Investing in a Nexgrill pizza oven was one of the best decisions for our summer at home. Not only does it provide delicious meals, but it also brings our family together for fun and memorable experiences. If you're considering a pizza oven, we highly recommend giving it a try. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy quality time with loved ones and create custom pizzas tailored to everyone’s taste.
